New Light Ferry Terminal Officially Opens – All Residents of Kaohsiung Can Ride for Free on May 24 & 25

With the opening of the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, the brand-new cruise port—“New Light Ferry Terminal”—has also officially commenced operations. To celebrate, Kaohsiung Harbor Transport Co., Ltd. is offering all residents of Kaohsiung free rides on the “New Light Ferry Terminal to Qijin Ferry Terminal” harbor cruise route on May 24 and 25.

Kaohsiung Harbor Transport Co., Ltd. stated that with the official opening of the New Light Ferry Terminal, it has become the fastest new sea route for Kaohsiung residents traveling to Qijin. Not only is there no need to detour to Gushan to take the ferry, but during the 25-minute ride, passengers can also encounter various cargo ships or cruise liners. Looking back from the sea toward the shore of the New Light Ferry Terminal, the harbor scenery of the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center is especially picturesque. Particularly around dusk, the area often attracts large numbers of photography enthusiasts who gather to capture the beautiful sea-and-sky sunset hues.

The “New-Qijin Harbor Cruise Route” operates regular scheduled services on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The one-way trip takes 30 minutes, with departures every hour from the New Light Ferry Terminal and every half hour from the Qijin Ferry Terminal. Boarding is at the New Light Ferry Terminal, and the one-way discounted fare is NT$100. Those celebrating their birthday in May can ride for free, and on May 24 and 25, all Kaohsiung residents can also ride for free upon presenting identification.

In addition, Kaohsiung Harbor Transport Co., Ltd. has launched a “Seafood Cruise Dining” service. With the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival in June and graduation season, an exclusive “Celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. Thank Your Teachers” promotion is available from now until June 30. Students can use the nation’s only sea-based dining cruise to host a unique farewell banquet for their teachers. Cruises depart at 5:30 PM, and advance reservations are required.
