Taiwan is so beautiful, it even tempts foreigners to settle down here. Hu Weide, head of cultural affairs at the Warsaw Trade Office in Taiwan, has been living here for three years. With his handsome and striking appearance, gentle demeanor, and fluent Mandarin skills, he chose to work and live in Taiwan among all the Chinese-speaking countries. “I’ve been studying Chinese for several years and wanted to live somewhere where I could speak Chinese. Taiwan was naturally my first choice.”

Having spent three years in the UK and one year in mainland China just to learn Chinese, Hu Weide chose Taiwan as the place he most wants to live and work. “I decided to come to Taiwan first, and then found a job at the trade office.” He loves the kindness of Taiwanese people and the natural environment, not to mention the delicious food found everywhere. Hu Weide has traveled almost all over Taiwan, even visiting lesser-known spots for foreigners such as Hehuan Mountain and Matsu. “I can’t predict how much longer I’ll stay in Taiwan, I just hope I can stay forever.”

“Ninety percent of people in Taiwan are good, but over seventy percent of people in mainland China are somewhat worrying.” Comparing Taiwan with mainland China, Hu Weide said that aside from its high standard of living, most people in Taiwan also have good manners. “Taiwan totally gives off the vibe of a developed country,” Hu Weide said. Aside from the urban life, what he likes most about Taiwan are its mountains and nature. He often rides his motorcycle after work to Wulai, soaking in hot springs and swimming in natural streams — a wonderful experience even within city life in Taiwan.

"Taiwan has many beautiful old buildings, yet they often disappear in the blink of an eye," Hu said. Having visited Tainan several times to appreciate Taiwan’s traditional architecture, he found the building styles that preserve the island’s history particularly captivating.
