The yellow rocking horse from Yilan "rides" into Keelung – on display at the Maritime Plaza during the Ghost Festival

The giant yellow wooden horse "Rocking Rocking Horse," which stood among the flower fields in Sanyi Township, Yilan, during this year’s Lunar New Year, is now relocating. Starting July 16, it will be exhibited at Keelung Maritime Plaza, bringing a new touch of childlike charm to Keelung’s waterfront.

Designed and crafted by woodcraft artist Ho Wen-bin over four months, the "Rocking Rocking Horse" measures 8.3 meters in length, 3.1 meters in width, and 6.5 meters in height. It stands 40 centimeters taller than the current Guinness World Record-holder, an Israeli wooden horse. Made using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery techniques without any nails or glue, even a medium-sized Rocking Horse is sturdy enough for adults to sit on and can bear a load of over 100 kilograms.

Ho Wen-bin noted that although "Rocking Rocking Horse" sounds quite Western, its pronunciation is the same as the Taiwanese term for wooden horse. Thus, out of 10 candidate names, more than 1,000 netizens chose this one during the selection process.

Invited by the Keelung Lin Clan Association, these yellow wooden horses will head to Maritime Plaza before July 16 to add more excitement to this year’s Ghost Festival. Currently, six smaller Rocking Horses are also on display next to Lin Dong’s Claypot Rice Restaurant on Dongming Road in Keelung for a two-month period, allowing diners to experience them.
