Want to sleep inside the bookstore hailed as the “world’s most beautiful bookstore”? Now your dream can come true！ Tsutaya Bookstore has launched its first 24-hour “Tsutaya Bookstore Apartment” in Tokyo’s Shinjuku. All the books in the store are available for reading and purchase, and the space also offers rest and washroom facilities, replacing a hotel as a new alternative accommodation option.

The “Tsutaya Bookstore Apartment” is tucked away on the 4th to 6th floors of a building in Shinjuku. Given the high foot traffic in Shinjuku, finding a quiet place to read isn’t easy—this concept was created to address that. The apartment mainly provides businesspeople, office workers, and even students with a peaceful space for reading and surfing the internet. Notably, it also features independent rest areas where you can catch some sleep. The 6th floor is thoughtfully designed as a women-only floor, complete with a makeup room.

Starting from the 4th floor, the main offerings include internet access and reading areas. There are window-side individual seats and communal round tables for group seating, along with printing services. Free use of iPads is also available here, and in the future, the 4th floor will host a variety of events.

The 5th floor is a shared space for all genders. Unlike the 4th floor, after passing through layers of bookshelves, you’ll find a large green area bathed in sunlight where guests can kick off their shoes and read in any relaxed posture they prefer. Window-side lounge chairs are also available, allowing people to enjoy reading while soaking up the sun.

The women-only 6th floor not only offers female customers a more reassuring reading environment but also includes a makeup room, where you can freely apply or remove makeup or style your hair. In addition to the above services, the Tsutaya Bookstore Apartment also provides private rest spaces at 500 yen per hour. For longer stays, hourly packages of 6 hours or 12 hours are available, which include one-time shower use. Luggage storage is also offered, and with its 24-hour operation, it becomes an alternative accommodation option besides traditional hotels.
