A Century of Heritage Revived in the Three Gorges – The 13th Indigo Dyeing Festival Kicks Off on June 11

Organized by New Taipei City Government, the “2014 New Taipei City Sanxia Indigo Dyeing Festival” is entering its 13th year. This year’s festival will officially open on June 14, with a series of activities taking place from June 11 to July 13, recreating the charm of the Triangle Dyeing Street from a century ago.

This year’s indigo dyeing festival launched the “Indigo Dyeing Boutique Exhibition” starting June 11, featuring indigo-dyed works by domestic designers and Japanese master artisans. Additionally, on the opening day of June 14, the event will include performances by local groups, a parade with 16 teams dressed in indigo-dyed garments, as well as a series of activities such as indigo dyeing try-ons, sketching competitions, and DIY experiences.

Yu Wen, Deputy Director of the New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Bureau, stated that the Sanxia Indigo Dyeing Festival is a culturally distinctive asset of the region, and expressed hope for more artists and creative talents to join in the future. Yang Zhihong, Chief of the Sanxia District, also noted that this year’s indigo dyeing festival is a celebration organized by the people of Sanxia themselves, and encouraged the public to participate.
