Kenting National Park Hosts New Street "Trawling" Event – Head Out to Sea to Catch Fish

On June 29 (Sunday), Kenting National Park Headquarters will hold the “New Street Trawling Fishing Village Fun” event, taking visitors to the New Street fishing village to experience the traditional method of cooperative trawling used by fishermen in the olden days.

The seine net fishing method, commonly known as “trawling,” involves using the sandy shore as a base, bringing the net to the appropriate sea area, and then pulling it back to the shore by manpower to complete the catch.

During “trawling,” it is necessary to understand tidal flows and the direction in which fish schools move, as well as to guide the fish into the net. People on the shore work together to haul in the heavy fishing nets, and all the catch is shared among participants. It is a team-based activity focused on cooperation and shared benefits, representing a shared memory of Taiwan’s coastal residents in earlier times and a vivid depiction of traditional fishermen’s lives.

Target Participants: Elementary school students and above (must be accompanied by a parent) and general public
Number of Participants: 35 people, registration via online application
Event Fee: NT$350 per person (includes a simple tasting meal, insurance, and activity fee)
