The Theme Park Popularity Poll Is Out: 50% of Travelers Love Tokyo Disneyland, Universal Studios Ranks Second

As summer approaches, domestic and international theme parks have begun launching various summer promotions and events. With continuously upgraded visual and sensory experiences, the richness of these theme parks is also steadily increasing. Beyond the rides, the parks’ activities, performances, storytelling elements, and even souvenirs are all meticulously designed to create an environment accessible and enjoyable for visitors of all ages.

Therefore, ETtoday News Cloud specially conducted the “Summer Vacation’s Most Popular Theme Parks Abroad Survey” from June 16 to June 22, focusing on Taiwanese people's amusement park experiences and preferences. The survey found that most people plan family trips abroad during the summer vacation, making Asian countries with shorter flight times their top consideration. Among trip itineraries, 62.8% of respondents plan to include visits to theme parks, showing that the enhanced richness of these parks has captured the attention of many Taiwanese travelers.

Among the participants in this poll, 62.8% have arranged theme park trips for the summer. The most popular theme park among Taiwanese is Tokyo Disneyland, chosen by 50% of respondents. Coming in second is Osaka Universal Studios, which will launch its Harry Potter-themed area in mid-July, selected by 24% of respondents, followed by Hong Kong Disneyland at 22%.

For summer vacation overseas trips, the survey shows 56% of travelers choose Northeast Asian countries—mainly Japan and Korea—while 16% opt for Hong Kong, Macau, and China, and 10% select Southeast Asia. In contrast, destinations in Europe, America, Africa, and Oceania, which involve higher time and cost, have lower percentages. Among them, 59% of travelers choose to go with family, reflecting that during the long summer break, many families take the opportunity for parent-child trips to enjoy the season together.

Surprisingly, 63% of travelers include theme park visits in their summer overseas itineraries. Aside from experiencing local culture, visiting theme parks with different styles and attractions around the world is also a key part of the trip. Among them, as many as 50% of travelers choose Tokyo Disneyland—the theme park most visited by Taiwanese abroad. This is followed by Osaka Universal Studios and Hong Kong Disneyland. Notably, Osaka Universal Studios’ Harry Potter area will open on July 15 this year (2014), which may spark a new wave of theme park enthusiasm.

According to the survey, 50% of travelers choose a park because of the novelty and fun of the rides, 36% believe the parks are great for visiting with friends, and 25% may plan a park visit to create summer memories for their children.
