Major Renovation of Alishan Forest Railway Carriages: 9 Accessibility-Friendly Cars

People with limited mobility will soon be able to comfortably ride the Alishan Forest Railway and enjoy the beauty of the mountain forests along the way. The Alishan Forest Railway has undertaken a major interior renovation of 59 carriages, with 9 of them being equipped with wheelchair spaces and accessible restrooms. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June.

According to a report by Liberty Times, the Alishan Forest Railway Management Office stated that the updates to the 59 carriages include installing large luggage racks in some cars for passenger use. The 9 accessibility-friendly carriages will have their doors widened to 90 centimeters and will feature 2 to 4 wheelchair spaces. The painted-themed train cars will also include accessible restrooms. After the expected acceptance inspection in July, one accessibility-friendly carriage will be available on both the intra-park shuttle trains and the “Chiayi–Fenchihu” route.
