Wearing a kimono is an essential experience in Kyoto. No matter the season, donning an exquisitely patterned kimono or yukata, tying your hair up high, and showcasing the elegant curve of your fair neck as you stroll through this ancient capital will leave you looking stunning at every corner. The kimono rental shop “Four Seasons Sakura,” located just a 10-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple, is highly recommended by many travelers. With hundreds of kimonos to choose from, you can wear one all day for less than NT$1,000.

Getting to the Four Seasons Sakura kimono rental shop is simple. Just take bus 207 and get off at Kiyomizudō, then walk about 15 minutes to reach the store on Ninen-zaka. Travelers should note that since the shop is located down a small alley on Ninen-zaka, pay attention to the signs along the way to avoid getting lost. If you’ve received a reservation confirmation, remember to print it out and present it to the shop staff for verification upon arrival.

Four Seasons Sakura offers three main pricing tiers for female customers. From now until the end of May next year, you can rent a kimono for as low as ¥2,980—that’s less than NT$1,000—for a beautiful kimono experience. With the increasing number of international visitors trying out kimono rentals, the shop now also has staff who can speak Chinese.

After confirming your reservation, the shop provides a large black bag for carrying personal belongings and a white inner garment. Place all your luggage and clothes in the black bag, put on the white inner garment, and then head to select your desired kimono. The dressing assistant will confirm your reserved price tier and inform you of the available kimono options. After choosing your favorite style, belt, and bag, they will help you put it all on.

If you want your hair styled, Four Seasons Sakura’s hairstyling service costs an additional ¥1,500. You can choose from six preset hairstyles, and if you’d like hair ornaments or floral decorations, those come at an extra cost.

If you’re quick, the whole process—from selection to being fully dressed in your kimono—takes about 40 minutes. With the shop just a 10-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera, it’s convenient for visiting nearby attractions. If you want to try wearing a kimono, this is definitely worth considering.
