Ride a bike on Jeju’s railway tracks — the more you pedal, the stronger the bond.

"Rail Bike," also known as "railway bicycle" or "track bicycle," is a vehicle that combines features of both trains and bicycles. It moves forward on railway tracks powered by human pedaling. Once popular in Europe, it's both relaxing and fun, with scenic views along the way, making it perfect for family outings.

In South Korea, many old train stations and tracks have been repurposed to create Rail Bike facilities. Among them, the Geumcheon Rail Bike gained fame after being featured on the variety show *Running Man*, attracting numerous visitors. Other locations such as Jeju Island, Seongsan, and Yangpyeong also offer Rail Bike experiences.

Jeju Island is South Korea’s largest island, just about a 100-minute flight from Taiwan (currently serviced only by TransAsia Airways, with four flights per week). The island is home to South Korea’s highest peak—Hallasan Mountain—and other attractions like Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) and waterfalls, all beloved by tourists.

The Jeju Rail Bike station is located near Yongwolak and Wolryeongbong peaks, and opened in October 2013. It’s promoted as a peaceful experience where you can enjoy the breeze, admire the mountains, and soak in the tranquil and laid-back atmosphere of Jeju.

The full Jeju Rail Bike course is about 8 kilometers long and takes an average of 35 minutes to complete. The bikes operate using a combination of manpower and electric power, so even if you’re not feeling strong, the bike will still move forward smoothly—no worries at all. There are 120 Rail Bikes in the park, each featuring unique designs, ranging from world-famous paintings to cartoon characters like SpongeBob SquarePants, any of which could be your travel companion.

After departing from the station, passengers are greeted with lush greenery on both sides—rolling hills and forests that are truly refreshing. Along the route, you can also spot adorable cows lazily grazing on the pastures.

According to a local senior tour guide, for residents, the Rail Bike is more than just an amusement ride—it’s a tool that brings families and friends closer together. During the half-hour ride along the tracks, you can chat and laugh with your loved ones while enjoying the scenery. This leisurely pace and warm sense of connection are at the heart of what makes travel in Jeju so special and captivating.
