The Arch Bridge in the Gente Waterwheel Park Gets a New Lease on Life – Its Double-Arch Design Brings Retro Charm

The arch bridge in the Sanchi Gente Waterwheel Park, renovated by the New Taipei City Public Works Department, was inaugurated on June 26, 2014. This bridge spans the Balian Creek, and its railings are made from kiln-fired ceramic tiles and antique rock bricks, giving it an old-world charm that has made it the latest tourist landmark on the northern coast.

The original Gente Suspension Bridge had become unusable due to structural failure, so the Public Works Department transformed the old suspension bridge into the Sanchi Gente Waterwheel Park Arch Bridge. The new arch bridge is 55 meters long and 4 meters wide, spanning the Balian Creek. It features two arched bridges inspired by the Jiangnan style — the larger one spans the Balian Creek, while the smaller one is located within the Gente Waterwheel Park. The highest point of the bridge deck above the arches is 3.6 meters. In addition to the railings, which are constructed from kiln-fired ceramic tiles and antique rock bricks, visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of the Taiwan Strait from the top of the arch bridge.

According to the Public Works Department, the Gente Waterwheel Park Arch Bridge enhances the scenery of the park. The department will also install light projection shows, and the bridge will serve as a popular spot for wedding photography, offering visitors to the northern coast a new travel destination.
