Plunging from 17 stories high — Kansas’ “Crazy” Waterslide Sets Guinness Record

The world’s tallest waterslide, Verrückt, is opening soon at Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas. With a staggering 168-foot drop designed by John Schooley, it guarantees an exciting and thrilling ride for all who dare.

Slated to open in early July and officially recognized by the Guinness World Records in May as the tallest waterslide on Earth, the German name Verrückt means “crazy” or “insane.” It’s a full 5 feet taller than the previous record-holder, once located in Rio de Janeiro.

The height of the Verrückt drop is even greater than jumping off Niagara Falls. According to testers, the first three seconds involve an initial steep plunge; then you’ll feel like you’re in zero gravity; and after several more seconds, you’ll experience a roller-coaster-like freefall with no limits.

The design team also noted that they have extensive experience building waterpark roller coasters and developing new technologies. Since there were no height restrictions for waterslides at the Kansas waterpark, the team decided this was the perfect place to bring Verrückt to life.
