No more crowding at Taoyuan Airport for passengers – all budget airlines are now here

All budget airlines at Taoyuan Airport are now in Terminal 1. Over the past year, Taoyuan Airport Corporation has relocated all budget airlines to Terminal 1. Airlines such as Tigerair and V Air also plan to move to Terminal 1, making air travel more convenient for passengers.

Terminal 1 of Taoyuan Airport has a designed capacity of 15 million passengers per year, while Terminal 2 can handle 17 million annually. The ideal passenger distribution ratio is 47:53. In the past, additional passenger volume was concentrated in Terminal 2, leading to an uneven distribution between the two terminals, resulting in a ratio of 39:61.

However, to address the issue of excessive passenger concentration in Terminal 2, Taoyuan Airport Corporation began planning to balance passenger numbers between terminals in late 2012, focusing on relocating budget airlines to Terminal 1.Airlines including Scoot, Vanilla Air, Vanilla Air (Japan), Spring Airlines, AirAsia, Jetstar Asia Airways, Tigerair, Tigerair Australia, and Cebu Pacific have all moved to Terminal 1. Newly added budget airlines, including the upcoming domestic budget airline V Air and Tigerair, will also be concentrated in Terminal 1.

Since July last year, efforts have been made to persuade budget airlines to relocate to Terminal 1, and the relocation was completed last month. The passenger ratio between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 has now reached 43:57, close to the ideal figure.

Currently, Jetstar operates the most weekly flights among budget airlines, with 22 per week. Last year, it carried a total of 368,000 passengers. From January to May this year, Taoyuan Airport saw a growth rate of 13%, with May alone reaching 23% — significantly higher than the international airport average growth rate of 1.5% to 5%. This year, the airport is expected to surpass the 34 million passenger mark.
