Taichung Metropolitan Opera House "Emerges" – Its Streamlined Curved Facade Is a Real Eye-Catcher

Rated by international media as one of the "World’s Nine New Landmark Buildings," the Taichung Metropolitan Opera House is now in the final countdown to completion. Recently, after the scaffolding was removed from the southern facade, the beauty of its streamlined curved walls, set against the deep blue sky, left passersby amazed, and they are eagerly anticipating the opera house’s imminent “emergence.”

Designed by 2013 Pritzker Prize winner and Japanese architect Toyo Ito, the "Taichung Metropolitan Opera House" is the most important masterpiece of his career. Thanks to its globally unique curved wall structural technique, the building has garnered international attention since construction began and has been honored by international media as one of the "World’s Nine New Landmark Buildings."

The Taichung Construction Bureau stated that although the initial curved wall structural design drawings once gave contractors pause, the construction team’s efforts have finally brought it to the verge of perfect fruition. The southern facade, referred to by Ito as the "Residence within a Vessel," features embedded glass windows that resemble rows of wine bottles, symbolizing the intoxicating delight of enjoying an opera. Additionally, the embedded facade includes cylindrical windows; when night falls, the building’s interior lights shine through the glass curtain wall and these cylinders, presenting another layer of aesthetic beauty.

Currently, the construction team is accelerating all internal works daily, hoping to allow the public to enter the opera house as soon as possible to personally experience its elegant architectural spaces and magnificent ambiance.
