Hong Kong’s new landmark: 20-story Ferris wheel “Central Eye” to open as early as October

The Central waterfront in Hong Kong is set to unveil the nearly 20-story-tall “Central Ferry Wheel” as early as October this year. Visitors can take a slow ride on the Ferris wheel and enjoy the Victoria Harbour scenery from various angles. Operator Swiss AEX originally planned to begin operations in September, but construction has fallen behind schedule due to weather conditions. The team is now working at full speed, and the attraction is expected to draw one million passengers annually.

Leon Snep, CEO of operator Swiss AEX, stated that the massive Ferris wheel was manufactured in the Netherlands and designed to meet the world’s highest safety standards to withstand Hong Kong’s strong winds. Currently, the “Central Ferry Wheel” only has an English name, “Hong Kong Observation Wheel,” and the company is considering holding a naming contest to give it an official title.

According to available information,the giant Ferris wheel stands 60 meters tall, features 42 gondolas, and each gondola can accommodate 8 to 10 people. The entire ride lasts between 15 to 20 minutes, and the waiting time for boarding is expected to be within 20 minutes. The tentative fare is HK$100 per adult per ride, and HK$70 per child.。
