New romantic spot in Kaohsiung: Old Love River Railway Bridge opens for night views and light rail views

The 74-year-old Old Love River Railway Bridge in Kaohsiung officially opened to visitors in December. At night, as the lights gradually illuminate, standing on the bridge offers breathtaking views of the harbor city’s skyline. Amid the flow of history, witnessing the ever-changing scenes of Kaohsiung is like watching a replay of the Railway Light Corridor, making it a brand-new romantic date destination.

The Old Love River Railway Bridge was built during World War II and played a pivotal role in transportation at the time. It was also designated as a provisional historical site four years ago. With the construction of the Love River Light Rail project, the old bridge was temporarily dismantled, until it was finally reopened this year. In the future, it will be more convenient for tourists to take the light rail to the Love River scenic area. After getting off at the station, just walk toward the old bridge, descend along the pedestrian walkway, and you’ll arrive at the east bank of the Love River.

The railway bridge passage was originally designed as a pedestrian bridge using the structure of the old Love River Railway Bridge. Wooden planks are laid on both sides of the bridge deck, while the middle section features semi-transparent reinforced glass, creating a very romantic atmosphere when illuminated at night. The 9-meter-high pedestrian ramp is spiraled upward in the shape of ocean waves, with an intermediate platform where visitors can pause to admire the scenery of the Love River, allowing for a relaxing view of the True Love Pier light rail and the riverside landscape.
