Tainan Qigu Clam Experience – o_ Lake Intertidal Zone “Digging for Clams While Washing Your Pants”

Tainan Qigu’s “Seafood Festival & Red-mouth Croaker Garden Clam Experience Event” took place as scheduled after a typhoon. As it was the final week of the event, it attracted large crowds. Families came to Qigu to “splash in the water and dig for clams,” creating a joyful atmosphere.

The Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau stated that for urban residents, the ecological experience of stepping on the o_ Lake intertidal zone to “dig for clams while washing your pants” is a rare opportunity. Some groups of mothers and children even traveled specially from Pingtung to Qigu to play in the water and dig for clams, enjoying a refreshing half-day summer trip. There were also summer outdoor educational activities organized by after-school care centers, providing kids with field ecology lessons. After visiting Qigu, you can also take a leisurely stroll through the salt town—see the salt sculptures at Salt Mountain, check out the sand sculptures at Mashagou, have a barbecue, observe bird life, and try water activities. It’s a great destination for family summer travel.

Organizers reported that as of July 26 this year, the Qigu Seafood Festival & Red-mouth Croaker Garden Clam Experience Event has attracted nearly 20,000 visitors. The warm hospitality of the Qigu area has brought more tourists, which has also benefited local seafood and restaurant businesses.

The city’s Transportation Bureau, in coordination with this year’s Seafood Festival (from July 12 to August 3), has added seven extra bus round-trips per weekend between Qigu Salt Mountain and Liukong Pier. Everyone is welcome to make use of the service.
