Do art studios also sell ice cream? Handmade ice cream paired with Tainan’s unique peng Bing is absolutely delicious.

I’ve been wanting to try this peng Bing from Boge since last year, but every time I went, I was unlucky and they weren’t open. Finally, I got to try it this time~~~~~

This peng Bing shop is located in Shennong Street. The store actually operates as an art studio that has been around for over eight years. They started selling handmade ice cream last year. The retro decor and old building give visitors an even stronger sense of Tainan’s traditional architecture while enjoying their ice cream.

The shop also sells many childhood toys and postcards.

Peng Bing is a rather unique local specialty in Tainan, often seen on Anping Old Street. When I visited Anping Old Street before, I heard the shopkeeper explaining it to customers, and that’s when Boge learned about the origin of peng Bing. In the past, families who couldn’t afford to buy chicken for postpartum recovery came up with this little snack, which is paired with sesame oil and ginger for nourishment.

Aside from being a unique Tainan specialty, peng Bing also has a special flavor. One peng Bing plus one scoop of ice cream costs $60 NTD.

Boge chose the Qigu Salt Mountain flavor this time.

The ice cream is made using salt from Qigu Salt Mountain. Eating the ice cream on its own has a slightly salty taste, but pairing it with peng Bing makes for a unique flavor—sweet and salty, and delicious. I remember last year the peng Bing was cut in half horizontally, and the ice cream was placed inside like a burger. But this time, when I went to buy it, they had changed to a cup format, and the peng Bing is also a bit smaller. However, Boge feels this is more convenient and less heavy for the eater—a small portion is just right.
