In front of Zhongli Railway Station, WD Gourmet offers an outrageously diverse menu, perfect for group dining because you get to try so many unique dishes. In the past, they served steak and many creative pasta dishes made by the owner. Now, on weekday evenings, they offer what they call late-night meals, featuring super local-style red meat congee paired with various amazing side dishes, such as fried pig liver, red braised pork, etc. Even more impressive is their addition of angelica to the braised pork rice, offering a bowl so full it’s practically overflowing—for just 40 NT$. It’s so delicious it’s almost overwhelming. I can only say—boss, with these prices for such dishes, isn’t that a bit too generous…

WD Gourmet is located right next to KTV at the front of Zhongli Railway Station—you can come here before or after singing, haha!!

The entrance is on the second floor. The first floor recently opened a stinky tofu shop. This one is a chain of rice ball shops—I personally don’t think much of them. The stinky tofu smells really strong, but it doesn’t affect dining inside the restaurant yet. Though it might in the hallway.

I didn’t take many photos upstairs because there were customers, music, TV to watch, and sometimes even live singers—it’s quite a mix, haha.

This time, I mainly came for the late-night menu. It’s actually pretty amazing to find this kind of menu in such a restaurant. The environment is great—bringing a girlfriend here feels quite classy. The congee dishes on the menu all use red meat congee as the base, with added dried oysters or anchovies. The bubble egg is an ultra-impressive “double yolk” sunny-side-up. You must order it with the angelica hand-chopped pork rice.
Angelica hand-chopped braised pork rice: a small bowl is 40 NT$, but the portion isn’t small. The highlight is that it has a bit of angelica added, which has a slightly nourishing effect. The side dishes are also pretty impressive. The “Wish Box” noted on the menu is the owner’s creative idea—if you want to try a certain dish, you can tell the boss, and maybe next time your name and the dish you wished for will appear on the menu.
As for the dishes, like pickled chili black rubber fish cake with preserved egg—that’s the owner’s creative dish.

WD Gourmet opens at noon, and the lunch set is 180 NT$, where you can dine comfortably in the restaurant—very good value.

If you want to eat pasta, the boss’s pasta is also super impressive. I don’t even need to talk about the portion—their normal portions are already 1.5 times that of regular Italian restaurants. It’s seriously impressive, so many people specifically order the “less bite” version, meaning they want an even smaller portion. The boss is really afraid you won’t be full…
The pasta flavors are also quite unique, like chicken leg with fermented red tofu and scallions, or Southeast Asian fruit curry pig tongue and cheek pork. Unfortunately, the garlic-flavored crispy greens with bacon beef is no longer available. These creative pasta dishes are all worth trying.

On another page, there are 10 more creative pasta and risotto dishes. The boss just wants to add whatever he feels like—a totally “casual” approach. I can only say the boss is quite whimsical—in the menu (hahahaha).

Also, the whimsical boss offers Taiwanese-style late-night meals. Aside from not matching the original pasta and risotto, the boss used to do steak… super wildly off-brand. For steak, American Prime grade, 20 oz… the boss sells it for 759 NT$... Anyone familiar with steak pricing knows that’s quite a steep price. As for 40 oz, I don’t know if anyone dares to order it—who could possibly finish that much?

If you don’t eat beef, there’s also special lamb shank or lamb ribs. The price is also friendly—just 580 NT$ to get it done.

The boss’s menu has way too many items… it’s making my eyes blur. The menu has detailed descriptions for each dish—everyone, read carefully.

The boss whimsically sells whatever he wants to sell—including hot pot!!!

He also sells fried foods……

The drinks are actually pretty decent, haha. I’m serious.

Today’s offerings aren’t even all the dishes—just photographing part of them is already impressive enough.

Small bowl 40 NT$ angelica hand-chopped braised pork rice. Attention, attention—the blurry garlic clove on the right side of the bowl in the photo above is the boss’s special fried garlic, super tasty, remember to eat it with the rice.

What makes this hand-chopped pork rice so good is that aside from tasting amazing, it also has a hint of angelica flavor—it doesn’t clash at all, it’s a perfect match, and super delicious. The rice is also carefully prepared by the boss, so the texture is nice and chewy. Paired with pickled vegetables, I literally finished this bowl all by myself. I’m confident I could finish a large bowl too.

If you love soft-boiled eggs, remember to order one. The boss charges 20 NT$ but gives you a giant double-yolk sunny-side-up. That’s just too… soul-crushing (gotta diet afterward, ugh).

I ordered the red meat ball soup, also 40 NT$ per bowl. Although it’s also very tasty, compared to the angelica hand-chopped pork rice, I really love the pork rice more.

Pork lard cracklings braised cabbage—the boss added pork lard cracklings to the braised cabbage, making it more fragrant and not greasy at all. Some braised cabbages have a really exaggerated layer of oil floating on top, but this one doesn’t. It’s super tasty—I quietly ate half the plate at the start, and no one even noticed…

Sea bird’s nest tea cup steamed egg—the cool thing is there’s wild bird’s nest hidden underneath. Supposedly quite pricey. Since I don’t like shellfish, I passed, but the steamed egg itself is quite delicious.

Crispy fried red braised pork—this small portion is 50 NT$. Street markets also sell a lot of salty congee with red braised pork, but the environment isn’t great, and the price is the same. I’d rather come here.

The boss’s red braised pork is special—its flavor is simple, just crispy fried red braised pork taste, and the dipping sauce is somewhat like the pig trotter sauce from Kaohsiung Wanluan. It’s super tasty. This is also highly recommended.

As for the crispy fried chicken drumsticks, they made everyone’s mouths water as soon as they were served—the aroma was simply irresistible. The skin is super crispy while the meat is incredibly tender and juicy. It’s definitely one of the must-order side dishes.

The tender fried egg tofu isn’t as impressive, served with a non-spicy onion and tomato mash sauce, which is the owner’s own creative touch. But personally, I think it’s just fine on its own, haha.

Next, I have to recommend the peeled chili black rubber tofu with preserved egg (I was the only one eating all night...), where the owner combines fish paste with peeled chilies, wraps it around a preserved egg, and then fries it. Although I couldn’t really taste the peeled chili flavor, haha, the fish paste paired with the fried preserved egg is absolutely delicious!!

The fried pork liver is the owner’s pride and joy. The large chunks scared me—they looked just like pork chops... But when you take a bite, the outer layer is somewhat like fried chicken, yet the inside is genuinely tender, delicious fried pork liver. It’s so good!! This is also a must-order dish. If you dare to try pork liver, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Xingru’s fried shrimp rolls are just okay. After all, the other dishes from the owner are just too outstanding.

I insisted on ordering an Italian pasta. Originally, I wanted to get the Thai spicy curry cream prawn pasta—that’s the flavor I truly love—but my friend said I had it last time and wouldn’t let me order it again (sniff). So I went with the garlic spicy squid ink pasta, stir-fried—when I saw the portion size, I was shocked... Uh, apparently you can even get a larger portion? Did I somehow end up in a restaurant for giants...?

The stir-fried pasta itself relies heavily on spices. The flavor is nice, and the saltiness is just right. I thought it was tasty because, in the end, I was the one who finished the plate... (I’ve been the one eating everything today, geez)
This is a restaurant that gives you quite a conflicting feeling, leaving a strong impression after the meal, haha. I can only say you have to go there and try it for yourself to understand, Up~
