Normally when visiting Hualien, most people would choose to try the well-known local snacks, but since I come to Hualien several times a year, those snacks aren’t really that appealing to me. Instead, I’m more drawn to Hualien’s unique cafés, brunch spots, or cultural and creative shops. And this place, Country Mother's, perfectly fits my idea of a slow-paced holiday in Hualien. When you’re on vacation, you should sleep in, then leisurely come to a place like this for brunch — now that’s what I call relaxation.

The rise of brunch spots in Hualien probably also reflects a shift in the lifestyle pace of the locals. But most visitors here tend to be younger, and for many, it’s more like having lunch.

Country Mother's has opened three branches in total — two in Hualien City and one in Taichung — making it quite a sizable chain. The Fufian branch is the flagship store.

Brunch hours are: 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM
Closed every Wednesday!!

They insist on using natural ingredients, with bread, sauces, and dishes all handmade, presenting the authentic traditional Western brunch concept in its purest form.

The kitchen also has a large wood-fired oven dedicated to baking bread and pizza.

Business is really booming.

The dining area has three sections: outdoor seating and a sofa area, which seems perfect for enjoying plated meals.

The restroom is pretty unique too~

It has an old-school vibe, and with some collage-style creative touches, it’s really cute.

We sat in the more rustic, countryside-style dining area.

The menu includes a special introduction to their philosophy, emphasizing handmade dishes, daily fresh-baked bread, and sauces, etc.

All meals come with yogurt and a drink (choose one: Ceylon black tea, jasmine green tea, or orange juice; other drinks available with a ¥25 surcharge)

There are quite a few options, including eggs Benedict and omelets, etc.

There are also bagels, French toast, and sandwiches

Even cheese wraps, pancakes, and salads are available — so many choices, so rich and varied.

Drinks are included in the set meals, or you can order additional ones by paying the price difference.

In the past, the dishes were made using traditional American country brunch recipes passed down by a foreign head chef from his mother, but I’m not sure about now.

They’ve now opened three branches, even in Taichung.

There were so many things we wanted to try, we had a hard time deciding what to order.

The drinks that come with the meal are served in big cups — definitely great value.

Mexican Cheese Wrap (pork) – NT$169
Such a huge portion of Mexican cheese wrap, with tortilla, pizza bread, yogurt, herb potatoes, and a big drink — all for just NT$169, no service charge either.

I love Mexican chili — it’s not super spicy but has a unique aroma, plus it’s crispy, sweet, and juicy. The wrap comes with options like pork, beef, chicken, bacon, ham, vegetarian, or sausage (with added beef). It’s really flavorful, with a mix of textures — crispy, juicy, and rich. Paired with lettuce, pork, Mexican chili, and cheese, it’s layered and delicious, very filling.

Spanish Scrambled Eggs (vegetarian) – NT$179
The fried egg my friend ordered looked really healthy.
Their handmade bread and toast had a really nice texture. They paired well with yogurt and were also great with the fried egg—satisfying both sweet and savory cravings in one go.

Eggs Benedict (with beef and horseradish sauce) – 189 TWD
Usually poached eggs are served with hollandaise sauce, but here they sprinkle chili powder on top. The beef with horseradish sauce is placed under the poached egg. Break it slightly to let the egg yolk flow down—its silky texture combined with the beef is rich and smooth.

The runny poached egg was incredibly tender, smooth, and fragrant, with no fishy taste at all. Even someone like me, who doesn’t usually like runny eggs, would enjoy this level of tenderness.

I think the price and portion are great value, and the taste is good too. The overall experience is rich and satisfying, leaving you very full. It’s a brunch spot with amazing cost-performance. Highly recommended!!
