"Real-Life Monopoly Race" Kicks Off – Winners Get Free Trip to Italy!

A real-life version of Monopoly – are you up for the challenge? Taiwanese five-star hotel operators have organized a Monopoly-themed event. After more than a month of preliminary selections, the seed team consisting of Patrick and Kiwebaby from the TV show "College Students No More," along with seven teams from Taiwan and mainland China, started their adventure today (12th) at Taipei’s Regent Taipei Hotel. They rolled the dice to begin their journey exploring Taiwan. The winning team will receive round-trip flight tickets to Italy and six nights of hotel accommodation, with a total value of up to NT$140,000.

Sheng Zhiren, General Manager of Yunglo Tourism Group, said that the realistic Monopoly game aims to promote the charm of Taiwan in a fun and immersive way. Some of the “Chance” and “Community Chest” options even include a chance to “go to jail” at a police station. Sheng explained that they were concerned no one would dare to participate, so they modified the rule — the “jail” experience only involves staying at a police station for a period of time, not actual imprisonment. The event is based on major tourist attractions in Taiwan and hotels under the Yunglo Tourism Group. All participants can stay for free at nine of the group’s star-rated hotels throughout the journey, and each participant receives a travel fund of NT$4,999 to use during the trip.

The winning team that completes the entire course according to the map and returns to Regent Taipei the fastest will receive six nights of accommodation at two Italian hotels under the Yunglo Tourism Group — “Villa Saint John” and “Villa Lanting” — as well as two round-trip flight tickets between Taipei and Italy, with a total value of up to NT$145,000. The second and third place winners will receive 6 general-use accommodation vouchers from Yunglo Grand Central + NT$6,000 Yunglo cash vouchers, and 3 general-use accommodation vouchers + NT$3,000 Yunglo cash vouchers, respectively. The total prize pool is approximately NT$210,000.
