People queued overnight just to grab a ¥10 barbecue set; arguments broke out due to disorganized order, drawing police attention

A barbecue restaurant launched an event where customers could exchange a "1994 NT$10 coin" for a barbecue set, sparking a collecting craze online—coins became extremely hard to find. Although the distribution was scheduled for 10:00 AM on the 16th, queues began forming outside various branches on the evening of the 15th. Blogger Orange Dog Loves Candy reported that by 3:00 AM on the 16th, over 70 people were already lining up outside the branch near her home, with even more in the morning. Police were called in to help maintain order.

Yuen Burn, under the Din Tai Fung Group, celebrated its 10th anniversary by launching an event where customers could exchange a 1994 NT$10 coin to purchase a "Love & Friendship Bonsai" and get a barbecue set for free. With a purchase receipt, customers could redeem one free Yuen Burn set, but each branch had a limit of 100 such offers. Additionally, there were 1,000 buy-one-get-one-free spots available. This promotion led to a widespread online search for 1994 NT$10 coins, with some even being listed on auction sites for as much as NT$100 each.

Due to the limited availability of free barbecue sets for just NT$10, queues formed outside Yuen Burn branches across the country on the evening of the 15th. Blogger Orange Dog Loves Candy, who lives in Taichung, said that after returning home from a late-night snack with friends at around 3:00 AM on the 16th, she was surprised to see around 70 people already queuing outside the Yuen Burn branch near her apartment. By 9:00 AM, the crowd had grown even larger, with scooters parked haphazardly on the sidewalk, and many people arguing over the queue—prompting police intervention to keep order.
