Taiwan's pride in the world of wine: U.S. media ranks China Airlines' in-flight wines among global top five

The sparkling wine, red wine, and white wine offered on China Airlines flights have been honored among the top five in the "2014 Wines on the Wing" competition hosted by U.S. magazine Global Traveler, earning the title of Taiwan’s pride in the world of wine.

Now in its 10th year, the "Wines on the Wing Airline Wine Competition," organized by the prestigious U.S. business and luxury travel magazine Global Traveler, brought together 29 airlines and featured 126 types of wines including reds, whites, champagnes, and sparkling wines, evaluated by 24 wine professionals.

China Airlines secured five top-five placements in this competition: “Antiguo Sparkling Wine from Hunter Valley’s Brokenwood Winery in Australia” was ranked 3rd for Best Sparkling Wine in International First and Business Class; the 2010 Château Haut-Bages Liberal red wine from Bordeaux, France, and the “Confidence” Shiraz from St. Hallett Winery in Australia’s Barossa Valley were respectively ranked 3rd and 4th for Best Red Wine in International First Class; and the “Pinot Grigio from beautiful hills of Napa Valley, California, USA” was ranked 5th for Best White Wine in Business Class.

In addition to expressing pride, China Airlines also noted that aside from the 2009 St. Hallett “Confidence” Shiraz, which is a regular offering in First Class, the other three award-winning wines are part of the airline’s limited-edition “Unexpected Delights” series launched during Christmas, Lunar New Year, and the Spring Equinox. Winning these awards is also seen as a significant recognition that Taiwanese can produce excellent wines. (Source: Central News Agency)
