Ever had trouble figuring out where the restaurant is when making a dinner plan with friends? That’s when we pull out our phones, open Google Maps, locate the target, plan a route, or activate Street View—making it no hassle at all to get to the restaurant.

Since Google launched Street View, we’ve been able to explore everything from the Sydney Opera House in Australia to Taipei 101 right from our homes, all with a flick of the mouse. Perhaps we’ve grown accustomed to such services, but now an even more special new experience awaits us. This initiative,proposed by a UK-based hearing aid manufacturer Amplifon, allows those with mobility issues who wish to travel to experience virtual journeys through this service—listening and feeling as if they were really there—bringing the virtual ever closer to the real. Although the project has only just begun, it currently offers pilot locations including parks in San Diego, beaches in Hawaii, and ancient palaces in France.。

Hearing the Sounds of the Street (Sounds of Street View) This service integrates sound into visuals. As you move your mouse, it simulates the act of walking, allowing you to hear sounds that amplify or fade just like in real life. The lively melody of an accordion echoes along the street beside an old French palace, then church bells start to chime. As you walk forward on cobblestone streets, the bells grow louder. Step onto the sands of a Hawaiian beach, and the laughter of tourists surrounds you. Find it a bit too noisy? Turn around, and the laughter gradually fades away, leaving you to peacefully listen to the sound of waves crashing against the shore. Take a breath—you can almost smell the faint tang of sea salt in the air.
