With multiple chain locations across Taiwan, “I Fry for You,” the brand, has entered its 10th year. It now operates over 40 outlets nationwide, specializing in affordable snacks made primarily from fresh Dajia taro. To celebrate winter, the store has launched five new products, offering taro lovers more pairing choices.
Li Chengrun, who hails from Yuanshu and was originally a basketball player, started his business on his own in his sophomore year due to financial reasons. “Back then I sold 1,000 taro pies a day at one store. Now, with more products and options, I sell about 400 a day. Over ten years, I roughly estimate I’ve sold tens of millions of taro pies.” The taro sales are astonishing.
When talking about what makes their taro different, Li Chengrun said: “It’s all about using quality ingredients. We don’t add preservatives, artificial coloring, or starch — it’s made purely from taro. I can tell you how to distinguish real taro: if the taro is very purple, but not a purple-heart variety, most likely it has coloring added. Good taro has a smooth texture, while older taro tends to be crumbly.” Due to its perishability, he recommends consuming it within three days. Also, because of strict ingredient control, products are sold only while supplies last.

The cheese inside is imported from the U.S. Unlike the sweet-and-salty taste found at breakfast shops, it strings just like the filling in their other cheese ball product.

Just 30 NT per piece, the pie uses sweet chocolate with an additional drizzle of chocolate sauce on top — it’s delightfully sweet. But if you prefer less sweetness, you can opt out of the sauce.

The meat floss is vegetarian, paired with salted egg. It’s reminiscent of the salted egg taro balls from Raohe Night Market. Many customers love this flavor, prompting the owner to produce it. “What sets us apart from Raohe Night Market is that we wrap it in an outer layer of pastry and use vegetarian meat floss, giving it more layers of flavor.”
