In recent years, marathon running has become a popular sport in Taiwan, with many experienced runners flying abroad to compete against athletes from around the world. Malaysia, with its multicultural charm and just a two-plus-hour flight from Taiwan, is also a popular destination for Taiwanese marathoners seeking international challenges. Malaysia’s most important marathon event—the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon—will begin at 4:30 a.m. on October 12, starting from Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur.

As Malaysia’s capital and a major tourist city, Kuala Lumpur boasts the diverse ethnicities and religions that define Malaysian culture. Running near the equator at 3°N latitude, with the morning sun gently shining, the course takes runners past famous Malaysian landmarks such as the Petronas Towers and the Istana Negara. It’s undoubtedly an exceptional event that combines sightseeing with sports. Last year, the Kuala Lumpur Marathon attracted as many as 33,000 participants, and this year the number of runners is expected to exceed 40,000, all sweating it out along the roads at 3°N latitude.
