Peer 60 meters down into the valley floor – Nantou’s “Glass Bridge of Light” begins trial operation on the 25th

Long awaited by visitors since last year, Nantou’s Pinglai Valley “Sky Glass Suspension Bridge” will finally open to the public for trial operation on the 25th, allowing people to walk on Taiwan’s first-ever bridge deck made of reinforced glass and look down to enjoy the breathtaking view of the 60-meter-deep Pinglai Valley below.

The Pinglai Valley where the sky glass suspension bridge is located has been officially named“Pinglai Glass Bridge of Light Hiking Park”after its completion. Visitors can enter via the Wuguangliang Ancient Trail, admire the spectacular alpine gorge landscapes along the way such as the One-Line Sky Flying Rock, Swallow Cliff, and Human Face Rock, and finally step onto the Glass Bridge of Light.

The bridge stands at a height equivalent to that of a 10-story building.

The main body of the Glass Bridge of Light, which connects both sides of the valley, is 88 meters in total length, with a 54-meter glass deck. To prevent visitors from being too scared to cross, aside from some dotted colorful paintings on the bridge surface that are faintly visible—leaving only a section fully transparent to give visitors the thrilling sensation of walking on clouds—the railings are also adorned with vibrant local agricultural product motifs of grapes and tung blossoms. However, for safety and maintenance reasons, no more than 15 people can be on the bridge at the same time, and shoe covers must be worn when crossing to prevent wear on the bridge surface.

The “Pinglai Glass Bridge of Light Hiking Park” will begin trial operation on the 25th, and during the trial period (8/25–9/14), all tickets are offered at half price. Considering the potential impact of large crowds on the local ecological environment and the limited parking available, the park has implemented a visitor cap. Those wishing to cross the bridge must first make a reservation in advance via theofficial website. After the trial operation ends, the park will officially open to the public on September 25. In addition to the posted ticket prices, residents of Xinyi Township can enter for free upon presenting their ID, while other visitors must purchase tickets at Xinyi Township Office before heading to the park.
