World’s Largest “Rubber Duck” Conquers Los Angeles, Extended to Early September

The yellow rubber duck craze that took Taiwan by storm for an entire year last year continues its global tour this year, showcasing its unique charm once again. The world’s largest rubber duck, which has been on display at the Port of Los Angeles since the 20th, has proven so popular due to overwhelming visitor numbers that organizers have decided to extend its stay by two more weeks.

Amidst the fluttering sails of dozens of various tall ships from around the globe at the Los Angeles Tall Ships Festival, this 61-foot-tall, 85-foot-wide, and 110-foot-long rubber duck — claimed to be the world’s largest — also made an appearance. It docked at the Port of Los Angeles for public viewing and was originally scheduled to bid farewell on the 24th.

According to a report by the Central News Agency, although there are no official statistics, the organizers of the Tall Ships Festival estimate that over 330,000 people came to see the duck during the exhibition period, causing roads around the port to be jam-packed and even backing up onto the highways. Due to the unexpectedly high turnout, the Port of Los Angeles decided to add a “Summer Duck Day” event, extending the rubber duck’s exhibition until September 6th to fulfill more visitors’ wishes of seeing the giant duck.

Phillip Sanfield, spokesperson for the Port of Los Angeles, said that in addition to allowing more people to see the rubber duck, the next two weeks will feature various themed “Duck Days” such as Duck Costume Day, Duck Dance Day, and Young Ducks Day, offering fun activities for the public to enjoy alongside the giant duck.

The slightly smaller “Baby Duck,” which is also on display alongside the rubber duck, will continue its tour to locations such as Hollywood and City Hall after the Los Angeles Port exhibition ends.
