A 105-year-old building transformed into a brunch spot — the crown toast is delightfully crispy and tempting

?LIM 'FILM was the breakfast place paired with our stay at Jiajia Xiaonantian. We initially thought complimentary breakfasts wouldn’t be anything special, but little did we know ?LIM is actually a quite renowned brunch spot. At 4:30 a.m., we joined the queue (which reportedly never ends) for the famous Six Thousand Beef Soup. We weren’t sure how long the wait would be, but it turned out to be under two hours (we’re feeling optimistic). After happily finishing the beef soup, we got back to the hotel around 8 a.m., took a nap, and then headed to ?LIM for brunch. (This is truly a gluttonous itinerary)

We had pre-booked our dining time and meal choices for the next day when checking in at Jiajia Xiaonantian, so when we arrived at ?LIM, we could just walk right in, sit back, relax, and wait for our food.

?LIM is located in the former residence of photographer Mr. Hsu Yuan-Fu. The name ?LIM is derived from the English word “FILM” (as in photographic film), which is why you’ll find many photography works displayed throughout the shop. This old house is 105 years old, and despite the renovation, much of the original layout and beams have been preserved.

The plump-looking French Rose Chicken eggs were so enticing that I, with my inner home cook spirit, briefly considered buying a few to fry up at home.

When the meal arrived, the portions were much larger than expected. The brunch included ham, scrambled eggs, a salad, and crown toast. The scrambled eggs were cooked to a perfect 70–80% doneness, making them incredibly smooth. The crown toast was lightly crisp, bursting with buttery aroma — it’s been ages since I’ve had such delicious toast. I really wanted to ask where they source it from.

For the drink pairing, I chose hot Americano, which was just okay.
