With its azure bay and distant mountain scenery, the landscape is so picturesque it looks like a painting!The section of the South Loop Highway in Taitung from kilometer 399 to 397 in the Huayuan area is hailed by many drivers as the “most beautiful downhill segment.” On a clear day, motorists can gaze out at Dulan Mountain and the Huayuan Bay, known as the “Hawaiian-style bay,” leaving many awestruck by the scenery and eager to turn around and drive through it again.

The fan page “Railway Artistry in Hualien and Taitung: Infinite Happiness in Life” shared two photos of the Huayuan section on the South Loop Highway in Taitung, where the bay, greenery, and mountain scenery blend into a breathtaking view reminiscent of a landscape painting. The stunning scenery from kilometer 399 to 397 of the Huayuan section is referred to as the “most beautiful downhill segment.” In the distance, Dulan Mountain resembles Japan’s Mount Fuji, while Huayuan Bay, located beside the South Loop Highway in Taimali, is also celebrated as a “Hawaiian-style bay.”

Nestled between the Central Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean, Huayuan Bay has also become an ideal spot for watching the sunrise. On clear days, Green Island and Orchid Island can be spotted, allowing visitors to enjoy a vacation-like tropical vibe without leaving the country. This stunning scenery leaves many drivers who pass through absolutely amazed, feeling that this stretch of road is so beautiful it’s worth turning around to drive through again!
