The dengue fever outbreak in Tokyo, Japan, continues to worsen, with 55 people now known to have been infected. All the infected individuals reported having been bitten by mosquitoes in Yoyogi Park. On the 4th, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government held an emergency press conference, announcing that dengue virus had been detected in mosquitoes captured in Yoyogi Park. The park has now been closed off and disinfection efforts have been intensified.

It is understood that on the afternoon of the 3rd, 276 mosquitoes were collected from 10 traps in Yoyogi Park, with the dengue virus found in mosquitoes from 4 of those traps. This confirms that disease-carrying mosquitoes have spread. Therefore, from 2 p.m. that day, Yoyogi Park was closed off. Travelers to Japan must pay special attention and carry mosquito repellent and thin long-sleeved clothing to reduce the risk of being bitten.
