The dengue fever outbreak in Tokyo continues to spread. To capture mosquitoes and investigate whether disease-carrying mosquitoes have proliferated, the Japanese Ministry of the Environment has closed Shinjuku Gyoen, located not far from Yoyogi Park, starting today.

According to Japanese media reports, the Ministry of the Environment stated that since it has not yet been confirmed whether disease-carrying mosquitoes are present within Shinjuku Gyoen, the park has been temporarily closed to ensure the safety of visitors and to facilitate the investigation. In addition to Shinjuku Gyoen, large parks in six administrative districts including Shibuya, which are close to Shinjuku, will also be key targets for mosquito capture and investigation into potential disease spread.
