Roam through Indigenous Mountain and Sea Villages & Experience Fishing & Archery in Hualien Like a Hunter

Last updated 2026-09-25 — To promote the beauty of East Coast tribal villages and boost the development of tribal tourism, the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration (hereinafter referred to as the East Coast Administration) under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has, for the first time, collaborated with the Council of Indigenous Peoples to launch five three-day and two-day special tour packages in Hualien’s mountain and sea villages. These packages invite the public to explore indigenous homelands and experience the cultural aesthetics of traditional tribal life.

To promote the beauty of East Coast tribal villages and boost the development of tribal tourism, the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration (hereinafter referred to as the East Coast Administration) under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, in its first collaboration with the Council of Indigenous Peoples, has launched five three-day and two-day special tour packages in Hualien’s mountain and sea villages from the end of August until the end of the year, inviting the public to roam through indigenous homelands and experience the cultural aesthetics of traditional tribal life.

The tribal tour packages jointly launched by the East Coast Administration and the Council of Indigenous Peoples include one two-day tour for each of the Shueilian, Jingpu, and Qimei villages, as well as a three-day tour route that combines Jingpu and Shueilian.

Ma Hui-da, head of the East Coast Administration, noted that the Shueilian Village, nestled between mountains and the sea, carries on the hunting wisdom and survival skills of the tribe; the Jingpu Village, located at the mouth of the Xiuguluan River and known as the “Sun Tribe,” offers a popular Eight Trigrams Net Fishing experience; and the Qimei Village, due to its once limited accessibility and later exposure to outside cultures, has preserved its ancestors’ intact traditional wisdom. Its highlight is a waterway drift adventure, with each village offering its own unique travel appeal.
