Hsinchu Railway Art Village Gets a Makeover: Watch Trains, Enjoy Exhibits & Coffee

Hsinchu City’s Railway Art Village has undergone a major transformation. To improve the formerly dim and poorly laid-out space, the city government invested in renovating a 76-year-old Japanese-era railway warehouse. The newly created 400-ping open space officially opened in July, offering visitors not only exhibitions and coffee but also the unique thrill of watching trains up close.

Originally built during the Japanese colonial period as a railway warehouse at Hsinchu Station, the revitalized Railway Art Village has shed its outdated image. Now part of the “Rear Station Arts & Culture Corridor,” which includes galleries, cafés, family-friendly spaces, and artist studios, it invites the public to relax and explore exhibits freely.

The outdoor “Train-Watching Platform,” just under one meter from the tracks, is Taiwan’s closest and most train-frequented photo spot. It attracts many hipsters and rail enthusiasts.
