I had seen photos of Meller Café online before and found it very appealing. Once, when I suddenly wanted to try Grandma Xu’s breakfast in Anping, I stopped by for a cup of coffee
As soon as I walked in—wow, it was just as photogenic as the rumors said. I have to say, the owner really knows how to decorate.

This long communal table must be the prime seat in the café, with beautiful lighting and shadows.

The artificial clouds above the bar, along with the tasteful and elegant arrangement of floral decorations and plants, are truly impressive.

Even the color of the sink is perfectly matched, creating great harmony.

But I’ve always believed that café décor is just a bonus—a good café should prioritize the flavor of its coffee, followed by desserts and other offerings.
Let’s take a look at the menu.

For the first single-origin coffee, the owner tried it himself after brewing and wasn’t satisfied, so he didn’t serve it. He asked if I’d like to try another—I actually appreciate this kind of principled and character-driven café.
He switched to Papua New Guinea Paradise Bird, which had a distinct woody profile, a fuller body, and a long aftertaste.

The other cup, which the owner casually brewed and shared with me, was probably a Beloya—it had a bright fruity acidity and a light body.

Later, the owner asked which one I liked better. Broadly speaking, I enjoyed both, but if I had to choose, I still lean toward fruity acidity over woody notes.
The matcha chiffon cake was generously portioned, with a delicate fragrance and stunning presentation. I took so many photos that day, deleted half of them, and ended up keeping just three—one for the header and the other two for posting.

I had a great chat with the owner that day, and since I also enjoyed the coffee, I ordered an espresso as well.

It had a herbal flavor upfront, with a lingering aroma that spread to the nasal passage. It had body but wasn’t heavy—would probably make a great latte too.
Meller Café excels in coffee, cakes, and ambiance. The cleanliness behind the bar is also well-maintained—they take great care in keeping it tidy. It’s definitely not one of those “pretty-girl cafés” that rely solely on décor. Friends who enjoy coffee and desserts should definitely visit. It’s fantastic, but I’d recommend avoiding the peak afternoon tea hours (around 1–4 PM), when it gets extremely crowded and loses its relaxed vibe.
