New Taipei’s “Circular Line Train” Officially Unveiled: Yellow, White, and Black Design Resembles a Bumblebee

The under-construction New Taipei Metro Circular Line will become Taiwan’s first colorful metro line, with the train’s exterior officially unveiled at the New Taipei City Government on the 15th. The sleek, modern design in striking shades of yellow, white, and black evokes thoughts of Bumblebee from the movie *Transformers*. New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu stated that the trains are currently being manufactured in Italy and are expected to arrive in Taiwan in October 2015 for actual testing.

The Transportation Bureau stated that the Circular Line spans 15.4 kilometers and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016. The entire line’s design invited French designers to incorporate color variations, integrating the trains, stations, elevated bridges, and soundproof walls into the scope of public art, transforming the entire Circular Line into a massive artwork and making it the country’s first uniquely colorful metro line.

The Transportation Bureau pointed out that the Circular Line will have a total of 17 trains, each consisting of four carriages, with an overall length of approximately 68 meters and a capacity of around 650 passengers. It will be the second fully automated, driverless metro line in Taiwan after the Wenhu Line. The Transportation Bureau noted that once the Circular Line is completed, it will connect with the Airport MRT at the “New Taipei Industrial Park Station,” so the carriages also include luggage storage areas. Starting from the 22nd, models of the Circular Line trains, MRT transformer-themed displays, and related videos will be exhibited and played in the first-floor lobby of the City Government, allowing the public to get a sneak peek at the Circular Line trains.
