Netizen Darling Zhong took a flight from Taiwan to Los Angeles, USA, last year, with a layover in Beijing from 10 PM one evening to 3 PM the next afternoon. They decided to use that time for a quick visit to the Great Wall. Darling Zhong said that the flight arrived at Beijing Airport around 10 PM, and she and three friends rented a private car from their airport hotel at 6 AM the next morning to head to Mutianyu Great Wall in Huairou District. The drive took about an hour, and upon arriving at the site, they took a cable car up to the Wall.

Darling Zhong mentioned that although the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall in Beijing is not as picturesque as the Badaling section, it has far fewer tourists, allowing for more relaxed photo opportunities of the scenic views. Due to time constraints, they chose to hike only the final third of the Wall to reach the top, which took about 2 hours. They then took a cable car down the mountain, which lasted about 6 minutes. Although it looked a bit risky, it was quite thrilling.

Although it may seem like an impossible mission to climb the Great Wall during a layover, Darling Zhong said that the total time spent going back and forth from the airport to the Wall and actually hiking it was less than 6 hours.
