Once, after having Yeh’s Rice Vermicelli Rolls, I passed by this Fried Chicken Shop located in Ximending’s Asakusa New World Plaza,
I was drawn to that eye-catching giant chicken, but there was no one outside the shop, and I wasn’t too keen on fried food anyway, so I just walked on by.
Little did I know that a while later, I’d see photos of long queues on a friend’s Facebook, and reading their tasting notes filled me with regret for not giving it a try back then. I thought, with fried chicken that looked and sounded this juicy, would I have to wait in line forever just to get some...
Unexpectedly, after having lunch nearby one day, as I passed by again, I spotted them setting up to start business!!!!
Of course, I immediately pulled over to buy a serving and try it out!!

It was 12:30 PM, and the owner said they wouldn’t officially open until 1:00 PM since the fryer was still heating up, but I could place an order and leave my info to reserve a portion.
While waiting, I chatted with the boss. He looked very young, and I was curious why he’d chosen to set up a fried chicken stall here.

Turns out, the boss missed the classic taste of traditional fried chicken. Anyone who’s lived in Tainan for over 20 years might remember 89 Fried Chicken near National Cheng Kung University—it served chicken with thin, crispy, and juicy skin. Sadly, it was later replaced by competitors, and that delicious flavor became hard to find. Longing for that crispy, juicy fried chicken, the boss decided to experiment and develop his own version. After eating fried chicken for three straight months, he finally recreated the taste from his memories. The “since 1991” under the sign doesn’t mark the shop’s opening year, but the era of the classic flavor he’s recreating.

After placing your order, the pretty female staff will hand you a number ticket—you just need to show it when picking up your food!!

The fried chicken slowly comes out of the fryer!!!! Just standing nearby, you can smell the irresistible aroma, and the golden, crispy skin makes your mouth water.

The reason Fried Chicken Shop’s chicken is both crispy and juicy is all thanks to this machine—the airtight pressure cooker. The chicken only takes 10 minutes to cook.
The boss said that 89 Fried Chicken used the same machine, but the method was slightly different. He chose his own way to recreate the classic flavor from his memories.
The chicken is also fresh—delivered daily after being electrically slaughtered early in the morning, so you don’t have to worry about freshness or food safety.
That’s why they only sell a limited quantity each day—the chicken runs out once the fridge is empty!!!!

The packaging has Fried Chicken Shop stickers, going the extra mile to ensure every little detail feels premium.

Crispy Chicken Nuggets – NT$50
These nuggets are bone-in, and there’s no thick layer of batter—the frying is perfectly balanced.

Three-Tael Drumsticks – NT$45
Drumsticks come in two options: three-tael (just drumettes) and eight-tael (more juicy with thighs included).
Since I had already ordered the nuggets, I just got the three-tael drumsticks to try. They were super hot when I got them, but eating them while they’re hot is the only way to enjoy the full crispiness!!!

See that juicy meat juice????
No exaggeration—eating these requires focus, or the juice might drip all over you~~~

I went full sacrifice mode to show just how good these are XDDD
No acting here—just my genuine reaction while eating. They’re seriously delicious~~~

Granted, fried food isn’t exactly healthy, but when cravings hit,
why not go for a slightly healthier option if you can?
This fried chicken shop serves classic flavors—juicy and delicious original-style fried chicken that we highly recommend.
