Made with Local Crops: Pingtung’s “Golden Bicycle” Stuns

Pingtung County’s Cycling National Highway Flower Season has set up a “Golden Tree” in the corridor of the main exhibition area featuring 1,600 pandas at Pingtung County Stadium Park. The installation uses a large number of cut Phalaenopsis orchids, creatively arranged with various materials to create six three-dimensional “golden trees” covered in yellow blooms, along with a “golden bicycle.” As Pingtung is a major producer of various flowers, eight types of locally grown crops from the county have been selected this time to offer visitors a uniquely eye-catching experience.

Alongside the cycling path near the Zhutian Township section of National Freeway 3, two floral art installations have been planned. One, designed and named the “Golden Bicycle,” takes inspiration from Zhutian Township being a key producer of Phalaenopsis orchids, which are not only supplied to the domestic market but also exported to Japan. The locally significant Phalaenopsis orchids were used to create the shape of a bicycle through a metal frame structure, tied and arranged to evoke the image of a “golden bicycle.” Another installation, the “Golden Tunnel,” features a C-shaped corridor designed with hardware materials, decorated with local Phalaenopsis orchids, foliage, tropical orchids, and red roses. Visitors walking through the golden tunnel can experience the local floral and cultural characteristics.
