A hidden paradise teeming with protected wildlife！Explore the secrets of Zhengda Xiaokeng Stream at National Chengchi University

With autumn in the air, would you like to uncover the ecological secrets hidden within Xiaokeng Stream in Zhengda, Wenshan District, Taipei? The Taipei City Government’s Department of Urban Development will host a free ecological tour of Xiaokeng Stream on October 4th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Led by professional guides, participants will explore this ecological literary haven, learn about the most primitive lives of animals, and foster greater care for stream environments.

Adjacent to large residential communities, Xiaokeng Stream features near-natural ecological engineering techniques such as stone-stacked revetments, check dams, and fish ladders. Its multi-level design includes accessible waterfront platforms that create porous habitats for wildlife, making it an ideal leisure spot for an afternoon stroll. To further enrich the stream’s biodiversity, plans are underway for a seasonal stream closure and fish protection initiative. Through effective resource management, the project aims to achieve a win-win for ecological conservation and sustainable community development.

In the upper reaches of Xiaokeng Stream, the “Blue-black Dragonfly,” previously found only in a few still-water bodies such as lakes and ponds in northern and southern Taiwan, has been discovered for the first time. Known for being easily startled and difficult to observe up close, this species is rarely recorded in surveys. With its striking blue-black wings and graceful flight, it is a true spectacle. Additionally, many other precious protected species await discovery, including the Formosan Anglewing, the Emerald Tree Frog, and the Giant Club-tailed Dragonfly.

Free Ecological Tour of Xiaokeng Stream

Registration period: From 10:00 AM on September 29 (Monday) to 5:00 PM on October 1 (Wednesday), limited to 40 participants. Registration closes once capacity is reached.

Transportation information:
1. Take bus 小10, 棕11, or 棕15 to “Xiaokengkou” Station, then walk along Zhengyi 1st Street (entrance to Qingxi Green Space Park) to arrive.
2. Take bus 小10 or 棕15 to “Beizheng Junior High School” Station, then walk north along Section 2, Zhinan Road, turn right onto Zhengyi 1st Street (entrance to Qingxi Green Space Park) to arrive.
3. Drive to the entrance of Qingxi Green Space Park on Zhengyi 1st Street.
