A Poetic Ode to Autumn in Ksamil — A Beautiful Dialogue Between Scenery and Foliage

When autumn stirs your heart, it’s the perfect time to travel and admire the fall foliage. The ever-popular Ksamil region dons its autumn attire in response to the season’s call. Croatia, a popular tourist destination, attracts endless streams of visitors from around the world with its natural beauty. Two national parks you absolutely shouldn’t miss are Plitvice Lakes National Park and Krka National Park.

Covering an area of 142 square kilometers, the park primarily protects the middle and lower reaches of the Krka River. Due to the river carving through limestone, you’ll find dramatic travertine terraces and beautiful waterfalls, especially the grand Krka Waterfall, where water cascades down, forming silver curtains that overlap and splash into mist. Red leaves extend over the river, creating a seasonal painting of Croatia.

Irish writer George Bernard Shaw once said: “Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik in Croatia.” Nestled between mountains and sea, with stunning scenery and mild climate, Dubrovnik is known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic” and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll through the elegant Franciscan Monastery, the bustling Stradun, Renaissance-style palace arcades and arches, as if time has paused here. The most popular attraction, the ancient city walls, served as the filming location for King’s Landing in the TV series “Game of Thrones” and offers the perfect vantage point to gaze over the Adriatic Sea.

Head to Slovenia, where Lake Bled, known as the Pearl of the Alps, is a once-in-a-lifetime must-visit destination. The emerald-green lake reflects the ancient castle atop the cliffs, and the azure waters, embraced by surrounding mountains, exude a serene and tranquil atmosphere.

Take a traditional wooden boat to the island in the middle of Lake Bled, a sacred site in the hearts of locals and home to countless ancient legends. Climb up to Bled Castle, stand within its Romanesque towers, and gaze out over Lake Bled—it feels like stepping into a fantastical world. Don’t miss the chance to taste the famous Bled cream cake, a delightful treat for both the eyes and taste buds.

Crisp autumn weather is perfect for hiking. The Vintgar Gorge, just north of Lake Bled, features wooden boardwalks that take you deep into the scenic beauty—a top choice for hikers. Along the gorge hike, you can enjoy mountain forests, streams, and valleys, while breathing in the fresh forest air. Following the winding wooden paths, you’ll encounter waterfalls, rapids, and cliffs, with Slovenia’s sacred Mount Triglav faintly visible among the trees, seemingly saying hello to travelers. Nature lovers simply cannot miss this.
