October marks the globally renowned "Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany." During this period, locals not only take to the streets in celebration and enjoy beer together but also prepare an abundance of delicious food to share with family and friends. The festive atmosphere is as lively as Taiwan’s Lunar New Year celebrations. Turgem Klemm, the German general manager of Dynasty Hotel, recommends that Taiwanese visitors pair a glass of beer with traditional German dishes during this season to fully immerse themselves in the joyful spirit of Oktoberfest.
Turgem Klemm, the general manager of Dynasty Hotel, introduces to readers the especially recommended German buffet experience during this season.
Klemm explained that Oktoberfest actually originated as an event in Munich. Starting in late September, residents begin their celebrations. Locals gather outdoors around long tables, and the festivities officially kick off with the ceremonial tapping of a "giant beer barrel." Waiters serve beers by sliding full mugs across the table, and he said, “And the mug lands right in front of your table—spot on—it’s quite fun.” Having lived in Taiwan for 26 years, Klemm speaks about Oktoberfest with great enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the atrium café on the first floor of Dynasty Hotel has launched a special Oktoberfest buffet, where you can enjoy authentic German cuisine from October 1 to October 31.
The spread includes traditional German dishes such as cold cuts platter, German beef and vegetable aspic, pork knuckle, sausages, and wine-marinated carp. Wu Chung-li, the head chef of Dynasty Hotel’s atrium café, noted that German cuisine features a lot of meat and preserved items, with some dishes requiring quite elaborate preparation. For example, the “rosemary roasted lamb chops” are first marinated, then pan-seared to render out the fat, followed by roasting in the oven to the desired doneness. Once taken out, they are topped with crispy fried onions and crispy bacon, then returned to the oven for about three minutes to achieve a crispy crust. Aside from mustard, horseradish sauce is also commonly served in Germany. A specially offered “Viennese-style” beef stew with horseradish features beef braised with spices for two hours, resulting in tender meat infused with aromatic flavors.

Another must-try is the traditional German bread known as the “brezel,” which General Manager Klemm particularly loves. He said, “Germans love drinking beer with brezel!” He added that traditionally, salt is sprinkled on the bread, but because Taiwan is so humid, sesame seeds are used instead to preserve the bread’s flavor.
