Fire breaks out at Tokyo's Tsukiji Market, engulfing the entire site in thick smoke; sushi restaurants evacuate tourists

According to Japanese media, a massive fire broke out at the outer Tsukiji Market at 5 p.m. on the 3rd, with a three-story building engulfed in flames. The fire then spread to nearby buildings, affecting an area of about 200 square meters, almost completely shrouding the outer market in thick smoke. The fire site is a popular area among overseas tourists, as it houses numerous food establishments and is close to Tsukiji Station on the Tokyo Metro, a hub for many travelers. Many sushi restaurants suspended operations, urgently evacuating both staff and customers. The Tokyo Fire Department dispatched approximately 30 fire engines to the scene for rescue efforts.

The outer Tsukiji Market is home to over 400 shops, including fresh seafood vendors, restaurants, and kitchenware stores. It has become a must-visit destination for international travelers in Tokyo due to its fresh seafood cuisine.
