Autumn is the perfect time for a relaxing hot spring soak ! The 2014 Taipei Onsen Festival series of events kicked off yesterday (the 10th) and will run for five consecutive days in Xinbeitou . For the first time this year (2014) , child sumo wrestlers from Matsuyama City , Japan , have been invited to Taiwan for exchange performances and a street parade . During the event period , there will also be cultural and creative markets , open - air movie screenings , free onsen shuttle buses , and free onsen vouchers for blood donors . Interested travelers should definitely check it out .

This year's onsen festival is themed “ Healthy Fitness & Fun with Sumo , ” featuring special guest child sumo wrestlers from Matsuyama City , Ehime Prefecture , Japan . They will engage in performance exchanges with the renowned qigong academy “ Mei Men Yi Qi Liu Xing , ” and revisit the traditional scene of child mikoshi parades . The fusion of cultures brings added diversity and fun . This edition of the onsen festival emphasizes health and wellness themes , and during the event period , there will also be live performances of Nostalgic Music ( Nakashi ) , Ming Hua Yuan Taiwanese Opera , and open - air movies — filling the onsen festival with an artistic and cultural atmosphere .
