Guarding Love and Happiness: Mayday’s “Future Elephant” Finds Its Home at Kaohsiung Xingda Port

Kaohsiung Xingda Port boasts not only the ocean, sunset views, nightscapes, and Taiwan’s only love-themed Lover’s Wharf, but starting now, it has also become the home of the “Future Elephant” – the eye-catching centerpiece from this year’s concert by Asian pop icons Mayday.

The Kaohsiung City Government’s Marine Bureau stated that Asian pop supergroup Mayday has served as Kaohsiung’s ambassador for three consecutive years and boasts a massive global fanbase. During their “Just Rock It!” concerts, which carried over from last year into this year, in addition to their captivating stage presence, the enormous “Future Elephant” also became a major highlight. After the concerts, Mayday gifted the elephant sculpture to Kaohsiung, and the Marine Bureau chose Lover’s Wharf — a location symbolizing both the ocean and love — to install it, making it another eye-catching installation following the iconic Transformers’ Bumblebee at Pier-2 Art Center.

Standing 3.5 meters tall, 6.2 meters long, and weighing one ton, the Future Elephant carries deep meaning. When Mayday’s lead vocalist Ashin spoke about its symbolism, he said, “Looking back on the journey, every step has been tough, but I never once doubted — because I always felt there was a calm, giant, kind friend by my side, accompanying me through every step.” Now stationed at Xingda Port, this giant elephant will continue to spread the message of safeguarding everlasting love and happiness.
