The "Boat-Shaped Suspension Bridge" on Alishan to Open in November – Enjoy the Beauty of the Nighttime Forest Together

Due to its steep terrain and narrow roads, Alishan National Forest Recreation Area has long been plagued by the issue of shared pathways for pedestrians and vehicles, forcing visitors to endure vehicle exhaust fumes. To address this problem, the Chiayi Forest District Office has carried out improvement projects, which will be gradually opened to the public before November 11. In the future, visitors will be able to walk along the thoughtfully designed boat-shaped suspension bridges and wooden boardwalks to enjoy the day and night beauty of Alishan’s forests.

Zhushan Forest Road, the only major recreational route in the Alishan area, has an average road width of about 6 meters and has long been shared by both pedestrians and vehicles. Visitors frequently reported concerns over safety and exposure to vehicle exhaust. Since the year before last, the Forest District Office has initiated a three-phase project to separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and recent improvements have gradually alleviated the issue of competing for space on the road.

In addition, the Forest District Office has designed a boat-shaped suspension bridge next to Xianglin Arch Bridge. With the concept of “Noah’s Ark, Dreams Take Flight,” the bridge spans a tributary of the Alishan River, connecting popular scenic spots within the park such as the King Cherry Blossom Tree, Shouzhen Temple, Three Generations Tree, and Elephant Trunk Tree. One of the park’s renowned flower-viewing spots, the Alishan Magnolia Garden, has also been connected to the Xianglin Service Area via a newly built wooden boardwalk. This allows visitors to stroll under the cedar forest canopy on the wooden path to enjoy the flowers in the Magnolia Garden or relax at the Xianglin Service Area.
