Millions of bubbles surround you — A magical scene at Hong Kong Harbour City that brings out your inner child

Whether playing in the park or watching a concert, blowing bubbles always brings joy and excitement to those around. But what would it be like if millions of bubbles were released all at once? Harbour City’s public art performance “Bubble Up” was held on August 2,and from August 20 onward, there will be two bubble installation art shows every Friday and Saturday at the outdoor plaza of Ocean Terminal, with audiences surrounded by millions of bubbles in a spectacular and lively atmosphere.

When the 45 bubble machines at Ocean Terminal’s outdoor plaza release bubbles, the scene becomes incredibly dreamy. Not only are children thrilled and excited, but adults also eagerly capture this rare “bubble moment” for photos. Originally, bubble performances were only scheduled for 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm on Fridays and Sundays, but due to overwhelming popularity, additional shows at 7:00 pm were added on August 10 and 17, allowing more people to create these “bubble memories under Victoria Harbour.”

Japanese contemporary artist Shinji Ohmaki is skilled at creating unique spaces through distinctive art installations and performances in various locations. In 2008, he designed and produced a bubble machine capable of releasing 10,000 bubbles per minute and developed a special bubble formula harmless to the human body, creating an installation art performance titled “Memorial Rebirth.”

Starting August 2 and coming to Hong Kong, the bubble machines and special bubbles were brought in from Japan, with 20 pop-up art installation performances being held at Ocean Terminal’s outdoor plaza in Harbour City. Shinji Ohmaki specially designed a six-tier, three-meter-tall bubble pyramid, installed in the center of the outdoor plaza. The 45 bubble machines will release about 10 million bubbles per session from various directions and heights, reviving everyone’s joyful childhood memories.
