Top 10 Most Visited Museums Globally in 2016 – Louvre Sees Sharp Drop in Visitors

The Themed Entertainment Association recently released the “Top 10 Most Visited Museums by Attendance,” based on data analysis of visitor behavior from last year. In total, global museum attendance reached 107 million, an increase of approximately 1.3 million. The research findings indicate that museums in Europe, North America, and Asia were the most frequented by visitors. Here is the list:

1. National Museum of China, Beijing
The National Museum of China saw a 3% increase in visitors last year, located on the east side of Tiananmen Square.

2. National Air and Space Museum, Washington
It showcases thousands of aviation-related artifacts.

3. Louvre, Paris
It is the most visited museum in Europe, but in fact, its visitor numbers dropped by 14.9% last year.

Located in central London, it saw a significant increase in visitor numbers last year.

9. Vatican Museums, Vatican City
It displays many world-renowned Renaissance artworks.

Featuring British art from 1500 to the present day, it saw a remarkable 23.9% increase in visitors last year.
