A café, hair salon, woodworking studio, and also a homestay, “Papa in Sanzhi” in New Taipei’s Sanzhi has no signboard and is a hidden gem even locals don’t know about. Its semi-open greenhouse café, with green leaves hanging down and plenty of natural light, is incredibly photogenic.What’s special is that you must make a reservation in advance. “Papa in Sanzhi” opened in August 2016. Owner Wang Zhaomin spent two years creating the prototype of a European-style countryside space. The biggest highlight is undoubtedly the semi-open greenhouse café, where vines hang from the ceiling and sunlight streams in, making you feel like you’re dining in nature.

Speaking of the origin of “Papa in Sanzhi,” there’s a touching story behind it. The owner originally wanted to give the space to his father, who loved wood carving, as a workshop. But his father passed away due to illness before it could be given to him. The unfulfilled wish is now entrusted to this piece of land, and every corner of the shop carries deep family affection.

Accompanied by the woodworking pieces left by his father and the flowers and plants carefully grown by his mother, the atmosphere of the greenhouse café is especially cozy. Since the owner himself studied fine arts, the thoughtful decor and clever design make great use of the space, which is a world apart from profit-driven cafés.

For food and drinks, they offer various types of coffee, smoothies, cookies, and cakes for afternoon tea. The most recommended by netizens are the kiwi lemon smoothie and lemon cake. Enjoy a little snack and spend an entire afternoon in bliss.

Another section of this multi-functional space is a hair salon studio, and they also offer whole-house stays and camping. After all, it’s also the owner’s home. With only one person running the place and a store dog for company, there are no fixed opening hours. It’s recommended that those who want to visit make a reservation at least one week in advance.
