For all you dessert lovers out there – here’s a collection of exquisite and delicious desserts in Tainan!

I’ve accumulated more and more articles about Tainan, and I genuinely feel that the content might not be any less than that of Taichung – it might even surpass it a bit now. I’ve always wanted to write a comprehensive guide – a curated list of 【must-eats】, 【must-dos】, and 【must-stays】 – but realized it would just never end. I’ll wait until I’ve published a few more guides before organizing everything properly XD. In a moment of inspiration, I recently decided to do a little roundup of 【Tainan’s dessert & shaved ice shops】 and 【must-try Tainan breakfasts】. Friends who like this kind of thing, take notes for yourselves, okay? This time, I’ve rounded up the desserts and fruit shaved ice shops I’ve visited over the past two years, listed in order: Desserts 【fun tower, 小铜锅, cocorico, 可俪可丽, 依蕾特】 and Fruit Shaved Ice Shops 【泰成水果, 裕成水果】.

I remember walking into this place【Fun Tower Japanese Soft Crepes】and being greeted by the cool breeze from the air conditioner – the temperature was just perfect. Maybe it was because it was typhoon season that day, and the weather outside was all over the place – sometimes hot and stuffy, other times sticky. So stepping into 【Fun Tower Japanese Soft Crepes】 instantly refreshed me~ Then I took one look at the shop’s interior decor – a cozy rural Zakka style that completely relaxed my mood. I just wanted to sit there, veg out, and do nothing.

The first crepe had an entirely different texture – a Japanese-style soft crepe, so soft and fragrant, yet sturdy enough that you don’t have to worry about it collapsing as you bite into it. It’s tender on the palate and makes you want to take bite after bite. Another big reason is the whipped cream – aside from the ones at KOPHY Pancake in Taichung, this might be the most flavorful cream I’ve ever had.

Walking into this place【cocorico】 felt like stepping straight back into the 1940s or 50s. If I hadn’t wandered upstairs in 【Linhua Department Store】, I probably wouldn’t have thought to stop by this shop. The entire fifth floor of 【Linhua Department Store】 only has two shops, and both the decor and vibe of these two spots match the department store perfectly. It felt like they were carefully selected to complement this five-story historic building~

I was drawn to 【cocorico】 from the outside – the retro windows, tables, and chairs. Even from afar, I could tell it’d be a great spot for photos and people-watching. So after asking about the minimum spend, the two of us ordered a drink, a small dessert, and an ice cream and ended up staying for an hour.

From every angle, it looks like the soufflé is spilling out over the sides of 小铜锅’s pan, as if it might melt away if you don’t eat it right away. And indeed, a soufflé must be eaten right away, while it’s still hot, to truly enjoy its deliciousness. If I had to describe it, it has a texture like steamed egg custard – soft, melt-in-your-mouth, and while it may look like a simple steamed cake, I’ve discovered that each of the three or four times I’ve had a soufflé here, they’ve all had their own unique charm. A three-tiered pancake, each layer about 1.5 cm thick. The highlight? It’s warm, giving it a wonderfully fluffy texture. The chocolate and lace crisps on top add even more richness. There were also two scoops of ice cream and some fresh-looking bananas on the side. Especially the bananas – anyone who loves the combo of banana and chocolate will love this pairing. The bananas were super fresh, topped with a crispy sugar glaze. (依蕾特咖啡)

Unlike regular crepes, they first prepare the batter off to the side, then place it onto a large round griddle to assemble the rest. They spread two layers of white cream (which seem to be two different kinds), sprinkle some powder on top, and finish with a big chunk of chocolate ice cream. It looks so thick and indulgent. I asked the owner which fruits were sweetest that season, and he said strawberries and cantaloupe – so we got a “strawberry melon combo” for 200 NT. When it arrived, I thought the portion looked a bit small at first. But honestly, everything was super sweet and delicious. (泰成水果)

Every fruit was incredibly fresh, paired with the rich aroma of mango juice – it was genuinely tasty. Nothing tasted artificial; it was all fresh and natural flavor. I think that’s the magical appeal of Tainan fruit shaved ice. Also, the watermelon juice was amazing – it was cold but you couldn’t even feel the ice cubes, and the whole cup was so satisfying. It cooled me down just enough on a slightly warm Mid-Autumn afternoon in Tainan. After that fruit-filled meal, I felt totally satisfied. (裕成鲜果冰。)
